Simon Mignolet’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain after being dropped for Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 first leg tie against Porto.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has hinted that the shot stopper would not feature with Loris Karius set to stand in between the sticks. Klopp’s rotation of goalkeepers saw Mignolet become first choice in the Premier League while Karius coming in for Champions League. However, Karius has taken over in the Premier League and Klopp confirmed that he had become the club’s official number one. It was thought Mignolet, who featured in Liverpool's 3-2 FA Cup defeat against West Brom, would get the nod against Porto but the manager appears to be siding with Karius for the game at Estadio do Dragao.
“To be honest I have not made the final decision but it is not the same situation as it was. ” Said Klopp on BT Sport. When asked about Mignolet, he replied, “Nobody knows about the future, or I don't know about the future. In this business it is always the same – it says nothing about that. It's not for me to think about these kind of things. I have to make a decision tonight and that's all. No problem."
Mignolet has been linked with a move away from Anfield in the summer but Klopp admits he does not know what will happen at the end of the season.
