The confederation of African football (CAF) has awarded Morocco the rights to host the Africa Nations Championship 2018 version.
Morocco beat Equatorial Guinea and Ethiopia to the rights.
The body's emergency committee met on Saturday 14th October in Lagos, Nigeria and overwhelmingly decided to grant the Royal Moroccan Football Federation the rights to organize the fifth edition.
- The Emergency Committee of the Confederation Africaine de Football, chaired by Mr Ahmad, met on 14 October 2017 in Lagos, Nigeria, and unanimously decided to grant the organization of the 5th edition of the Total African Nations Championship to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, CAF confirmed in a statement.
Caf was forced to withdraw the tournament from Kenya after realizing that the country was too slow in preparing the venues to host the tournament.
The executive committee immediately opened the bidding process that ended on October 1st. Morocco, Equatorial Guinea and Ethiopia submitted in their bids.
However, only the former two were valid after Ethiopia failing to provide provide the government's letter of guarantee, which is a mandatory document required by the rules of application of the Statutes of the Caf.
The tournament will be hosted between January 12th and February 4th. The matches will be hosted in Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir and Tangier.
Caf did not pronounce the procedure to find the 16th team. Fifteen teams including Morocco had qualified directly while Kenya was to be thr 16th as tournament hosts.
