Lagos club MFM FC on Wednesday beat Sunshine Stars 2-1 to compound the woes of the Akure Gunners.
Sunshine Stars have lost five of their last seven Nigeria Professional Football League matches, with Austin Eguavoen resigning his position as coach.
In Wednesday’s game, Tchato put the hosts – MFM FC - in front in the 27th minute from a beautiful strike to end the first half in their favour.
MFM later got a penalty reward when Sikiru Olatunbosun's rebound met the hand of a defender inside the danger area.
Stephen Odey stepped up to it and scored for MFM's second, and his 16th goal of the current league campaign with 11 minutes from time.
But sunshine Stars will not go empty handed as they reduced the deficit through substitute Otegbeye Ajibola to end the tie at 2-1 in favour of MFM.
MFM have now displaced El Kanemi on the 2nd spot, with 43 points from 26 games, while Sunshine Stars continue to face relegation threat with 30 points from same number of matches.
